Happy 4th of July! We slept in this morning – I got up around 10 or so and Ryan got up a little bit later. Once he was up, he made us breakfast – scrambled eggs, sausage, and hash browns. It was really good. Then we got started on the house. Ryan worked more in the kitchen – finished getting the end panels and baseboards on the cabinets. I got the 3rd (and final) coat of paint up in Robert’s room (except the ceiling which Ryan has to do) and then I painted the hobby/craft room. Everything sure is looking nice and bright with fresh coats of paint. All that is left is the dining room and touchups in a few other rooms. After relaxing for a little bit, we got ready and headed to Sacket’s Harbor. Ryan’s friend A was working and we saw him. Then we walked around the historical battlefield area and read the signs and stuff. Then we got our chairs and backpack from the van and got our spot for the fireworks. We had about a 3+ hour wait, but we got a good parking spot and good seats for the fireworks. I knitted on a dishcloth. Robert ran around. Ryan talked to A more. Once they had the little concession stand up, we had "dinner". It consisted of ice cream (in various forms – Robert: ice cream sandwich, Ryan: two different ice cream things, me: small cup of ice cream and a Ben & Jerry’s Cherry Garcia bar) and pop. That’s all they had at the concession stand. Finally it was time for the fireworks – after a beautiful sunset over Lake Ontario. They were really good as they always are out there. They lasted about 20 minutes. There was a huge crowd – probably at least 1000 people. Once we got back to the van, getting out was pretty easy once someone stopped to let us out. Ryan had backed in so we didn’t have to back out! And they had police at intersections directing traffic and it was a well thought-out plan to get people out of town. Robert fell asleep in the car even before we left where we were parked.
Today’s high: 62 and rain. But it cleared up and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky for the fireworks!!!
