Company!

My brother Richard is here visiting from Michigan for a week! We picked him up at the Columbia airport yesterday and we’re have a great time. He and I and Robbie went to Hobby Lobby tonight to buy a few things. Ryan was in Columbia doing a Vietnam display for a dinner that was held for Medal of Honor winners. He really enjoys doing his living history stuff, and I’m glad he had this awesome opportunity to meet Medal of Honor winners.

We’ve got a busy weekend planned, so be sure and stay tuned for all the info on that at a later date!

A Fire & A Storm

Saturday when we went to go mail some mail, there was a note stuck in our door from one of our neighbors. Early Saturday morning a fire started by our garbage cans (there’s 17 residences in our neighborhood and we have an area set aside with a fence around it for our trash cans). The trash cans are gone as is most of the nice fence that Ryan built for the Neighborhood Association last fall. Either one of the residents had something in their garbage that caused the fire, or (more likely) someone driving on the road behind the fence tossed a lit cigarette and it caught the dry pine needles on fire. Luckily, the ladies the live in the 2 end places noticed the fire and called the fire department. They were here within 15 minutes, and in the meantime, Katherine and Judy used their garden hoses to protect our neighborhood. Judy’s siding is melted on her house, but other than that and the fence and trash cans, there was no damage. The garbage company brought new trash cans today, but we’ll have to get the fence replaced eventually. WOW – talk about scary, but luckily everyone is ok.
Hurricane/Tropical Storm Jeanne visited us yesterday. We had a lot of rain and some strong wind, but nothing major. And once again (as with the other hurricanes that have come near here) there was no damage to our neighborhood. There were some branches down out in town, and a few businesses had damage to their sign, but that’s about it.

Life as a Mommy is going well. I can finally drive again after my surgery, and that’s nice. I had a doctor’s appointment yesterday to have my wrist checked out because it’s been hurting. The Doctor sent me for x-rays, and after looking at them, he decided that it was most likely a small calcium deposit and told me just to keep an eye on it. If it hasn’t gone away in a month or so, I’m to go back and see him again. It’s more annoying than anything, but does hurt a little when I push on it or bend my wrist in a funny way. Robbie is doing well and is growing, and he’s sleeping really good at night – 6 hours at a time, so only one night feeding now! Hopefully it stays that way once I go back to work in 2-4 weeks (hopefully 4).

A Week of Being a Mommy

I haven’t really done much this week. Robbie and I have walked almost every morning. Sometimes I put him in his stroller and sometimes he’s in his Snugli. I really enjoy being outside and getting some exercise, and Robbie seems to enjoy it as well. He usually sleeps while we walk. I went a full 2 miles the other day, and I imagine my walks will start getting longer and longer as I get back into shape. I’ll probably start adding in some slow running in the next week or so as well. I’m working on getting a jogging stroller so that when Robbie is old enough (most of my running friends say 6 weeks) we can go run together. I really want to start training for a marathon, which I would run next year sometime. As most of you know, I already ran a 1/2 marathon when I was in Korea in 2003.
After we get back from our morning walk, Robbie gets his lunch and then goes down for a nap. He usually sleeps 1 1/2 to 2 hours and this is my time. I’ve been getting a bit of cross stitching done everyday, and that’s really nice. When he wakes up, I feed him again and then we play on the floor for a while. He usually gets some tummy-time and I’ll read the newspaper while keeping an eye on him. I read him some of the articles sometimes. When Ryan gets home from work, he’ll take Robbie for a while and I’ll make dinner. After dinner, we’ll take turns with Robbie until his bedtime which is around 9.

I’m really enjoying being a mother and love watching Robbie’s antics and the cute faces and sounds he makes!

Welcome!!

Thanks to my Dad for helping me get started! I just want to welcome everyone to my web journal and I hope you come by frequently to read what’s going on in my life!

I’m on maternity leave right now after the birth of Robert Olaf, so there’s not much going on. I’m learning how to be a good Mommy and Robbie and I are having some fun days while Ryan is off at work. We go for walks in his stroller or in the Snugli. I try and get a little bit of cross stitching in while he’s napping in the afternoons. And we play together. That’s about it!
